In typical Redbird fashion, Doyle has put together a solid starting staff anchored by Price/Garza. Pineda will be a nice pick and will certainly get his share of wins in NY but pitching in the AL East may take its toll on the youngster later in the year. Too many offensive question marks will make it difficult to be anything but a consolation team this year and if Reyes goes down things become more difficult. Tex will give him solid power numbers but his average is continuing to slide down. Ellsbury will probably not duplicate last years numbers and who knows what if anything he will get from Morneau. Lot's of ifs here.

You can't argue with Hoyle's #1 pick of Adrian Gonzalez. Having him in my lineup last year you always wondered if he was really having a good year because he never seemed to have many if any great weeks, unlike Tulo for example who literally carries a team some weeks. At the end of the year AGon's number will be as good as anyones. He is just rather vanilla. Some nice speed is there with Crisp/Ichiro and Aybar (I liked that pick) but they are all rather one dimensional. Can Berkman repeat 2011, can Gordon improve and Wilson Ramos in an early round I didn't quite see it. This is another team that I will be interested to see when he puts his contracts.
My rankings had distinct gaps in the levels. Teams 13-16 were well below everyone else. Teams 8-12 were in the next group. Teams 4-7 were in the tier just below the top three teams. So tomorrow we get into the second best group of teams with picks seven and eight. Until then.....

Good work so far Renner. I think you've got me pretty well pegged this year barring a couple guys taking big steps forward. I was just trying to lay the foundation that would allow me to compete next year, and I think I did that.
ReplyDeleteRamos was a reach in the 4th, but he was the last catcher on my board who was even slightly above average. I figure he's good for .270+, 15+ HR and 65+ RBI this season, which is nothing to sneeze at. His upside is better than that IMO.
Not sure why I'm taking shit for the Aybar pick. He'll help in runs and steals, and he's good enough that he shouldn't hurt me in average. 10 HR and 50+ is pretty solid for a second tier SS. I think he and Ramirez are fairly even - Alexei produces more runs, but Aybar is more consistent and will steal more and score more. I think Alexei's reputation in fantasy circles is greater than the sum of its parts, he really isn't anything special.
As for VMart - I took a catcher who will hit .300 and drive in 90+ for me next season instead of a MRP who probably wouldnt have been on my team all year, anyway. MRP are expendable, especially for a team that won't win this year, anyway. Martinez can help me win next year. And with all the Tiger fans in this league, he would not have lasted more than a couple more rounds, anyway (I know Larry was looking at him). It wasn't realistic to expect to get him with my last pick. I'll probably be middle of the pack whether he's sitting on the DL or not, so I may as well plan for next year.
I wasnt looking at Victor, I was only thinking of 2012 in the draft but I do like that pick to be honest. Now, Im thinking of contracting Chipper and hoping he retires, so i get a contract back and an extension for free! :) Just kidding

ReplyDeleteI wanted Aybar the round you got him. His offense is what my team needed. I was looking for Speed from a SS. Ramos was a total reach and he would have been there a few rounds later if not more. Don't like Ichiro. Hes already declining fast and the speed has to drop not at his age. His bat already has. Crisp pick I think was great value. Him along with Emilio fell to far and I pushed waiting for them.
